MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
My fellow Goan brothers and sisters, As the clock struck twelve on the midnight of 14/15 August 1947, India emerged a free nation. It was a dream come true , a dream nurtured by hundreds and thousands of people of India; a dream which was turned into reality by our great leaders and freedom fighters. And then began the journey towards the goal of building a strong and prosperous India. We Goans came into conflict continually with the Portuguese government since the day they took over Goa and began consolidating their foothold in this strategically important colony. It was our misfortune that we could not attain our political independence at the same time as British India even as our struggle for freedom dates prior to that of India under British rule. Goa occupies today a unique place in the mosaic of various states of India due to its distinct socio-cultural identity. The winds of change that have swept the globe have had an impact on the life in Goans and set in motion the process of adaptation to the constantly changing world. It would be worthwhile to recall that Goan 'genius' attained the zenith of its concept of living in harmony with the surroundings, concern for the brethren villagers and propensity for collective governance in the creation of the centuries old 'GAUNKARIES' which the Portuguese later called 'COMUNIDADES'. In this unique socio-political system of governance all racial and ethnic groups lived in peace and harmony, a feat which the modern systems of governance have not been able to accomplish. They all worked for common good. It was an embodiment of the ideal of "one for all and all for one", so admirably put into action. There is something living and dynamic about this heritage which showed itself in ways of living and philosophical attitude of life and its problems. These traditions, precious as they are, have to be accepted to a large extent and adapted and transformed to meet new conditions and ways of thought, and at the same time new traditions have to be built up. We must make an attempt to understand and adapt the new and harmonize it with the old. Goans, in ample measures, have the ability to do it. Spirituality, as distinct from religiosity, will provide the well of strength to accomplish this mission without traumatizing inter-relationship between the diverse groups of the Goan population. I have no doubt in my mind that Goa will show the way and we will realize, in not too distant a future, the Vedic ideal of "VASUDHAIVA KURUMBAKAM" - 'The world is but one family. The Goa Su-Raj Party, with its emphasis on high standard of governance, and also its firm belief that all the ills of democracy can be cured by more effective democracy, is pre-eminently suited to perform this stupendous task. Let lasting peace and prosperity be with you. Always in the service of the nation Dr. Narana Sinai Dumo PRESIDENT GOA SU-RAJ PARTY
