After having interacted with the local print media at a press conference held at the Hotel Park Plaza on the 17th. December, 2001 which was largely attended, Goa Su-Raj Party was officially launched with the inauguration of its North Goa Zonal Office at Mapusa at a ceremony held on 19th. December at 10:30 a.m.
With a short welcome address by the founding president of the Party Mr. Floriano Lobo, the Chief Guest, Dr. Samir G.
Kelekar, (IT Management Consultant, Bangalore), the guest of honour Ms. Melinda
Kamat, teacher, Saraswat Vidhalaya, Khorlim-Mapusa) and the special guest Mr. Luis Fernandes, Manager, Bank of India, Miramar branch were welcomed by presenting bouquets of flowers. The ribbon cutting ceremony was performed by the chief guest followed by the lighting of the multi wicked family traditional lamp specially lent for the occasion by friend Ms. Natekar & Sons, Mapusa
(Bhairao) by the chief guest followed by other guests, founding members of the party and invitees. In his address, the chief guest touched upon concerns of lax and prejudicial occurrences at state, national and international level and stressed on the necessity for Goans to be united as one to fight collectively to dispel the perennial inability of Goans to unite as one for their common good. He said that many people were skeptical of this new party in the beginning, including himself but now they have realized that it could be the only fighting force for Goa's development and a challenge to Goan political parties with its dynamic no nonsense Constitution in place.
The chief guest then officially released the Party's Constitution by signing it followed by all others present. (This copy of the Constitution has been permanently displayed on the office's notice board.) Thereafter, the special guest Mr. Luis Fernandes handed over the FD receipt for
Rs. 21800/- from the proceeds of the "Pratima Gaonkar Relief Fund initiated by Goa Su-Raj Party to Ms. Melinda Kamat who in turn handed the same to a very emotional Jayashree
Gaonkar, mother of late Ms. Pratima Gaonkar. This was followed by Dr.
N.S. Dumo handing over the good-will cheque for Rs 5000/- from the Goa Su-Raj PIL fund to Mr. John Gonsalves of Caranzalem for taking the initiative of filing a writ petition in the High Court, Panjim bench against the setting up of the Caranzalem petrol pump in the area reserved for public park. The cheque was received by John Fernandes in the absence of Mr. John
The function was wound up by a vote of thanks by Founder member Atanasio Lobo who also acted as the master of ceremonies. It was followed by serving of sweets, snacks and refreshments. The function was covered by digitized filming by the visiting team from the Information Department, New Delhi.
